FIVE HEROES. ONE STORY. THE COMPLETE COLLECTION.

Haiti's independence wasn't won by one person — it was won by all of them. This is the complete Haitian Heroes collection: all five challenge coins in one set, the full story of 1804 on your desk, your shelf, or in the hands of someone who needs to hear it.

TOUSSAINT LOUVERTURE — Architect of Liberty
The former slave who turned an uprising into an army disciplined enough to beat European powers. Arrested in 1802, he died in a French prison months before the victory he made possible.

JEAN-JACQUES DESSALINES — Father of Liberty
Born enslaved in 1758. Commanded the indigenous army to victory at Vertières on 18 November 1803, and stood at Gonaïves on 1 January 1804 to declare Haiti free — the first Black sovereign state in the Americas.

CATHERINE FLON — The Flagmaker
At the Congress of Arcahaie on 18 May 1803, she sewed the first Haitian flag — blue and red, torn from the French tricolor. Haiti's Flag Day, 18 May, honors her needle.

MARIE-JEANNE LAMARTINIÈRE — She Held the Ramparts
At Crête-à-Pierrot in March 1802 she fought on the fortress walls in a red cap, rifle in hand, passing ammunition under fire — then slipped through the French lines the night the garrison escaped.

SANITÉ BÉLAIR — Lieutenant of Liberty
Sergeant, then lieutenant in Toussaint's army; her comrades called her the Tigress. Sentenced to beheading because she was a woman, she demanded a soldier's death, refused a blindfold, and shouted "Viv libèté! A ba esclavaj!"

One coin starts a conversation. Five coins tell the whole story.

Save $16 on the complete collection — $109 for all five, versus $125 purchased separately.

Coin Specifications

  • Material: Zinc alloy
  • Diameter: 2 inches
  • Finish: Antique gold plating
  • Edge: Reeded
  • Design: 3D relief, front and back

Care: Handle by the edges and keep dry. Do not polish — the antiqued finish sits in the recessed detail, and polishing strips it out and flattens the design. A soft dry cloth is all it needs.
