Catherine Flon Haitian Heroes Challenge Coin

SEAMSTRESS OF LIBERTY

On 18 May 1803, at the Congress of Arcahaie, Jean-Jacques Dessalines tore the white band from the French tricolour. Catherine Flon — a seamstress from Arcahaie with her own workshop, and Dessalines’ goddaughter — stitched what remained into the blue and red of a nation that did not yet exist.

She is the reason Haitian Flag Day is 18 May. Haiti put her on the 10-gourde note in 2000. The needle she is remembered for did what no rifle could: it gave the revolution something to march behind.

This coin carries her at work, with the motto that became Haiti’s own — L’Union Fait La Force. Unity makes strength.

Coin Specifications

Diameter, thickness, weight, metal, finish, edge, reverse design, and packaging to be added.

Care: Handle by the edges and keep dry. Do not polish — the antiqued finish sits in the recessed detail, and polishing strips it out and flattens the design. A soft dry cloth is all it needs.

Honor the Past. Carry the Legacy.
